Bespoke playground by CPCL, in Southport, King's Gardens

King's Gardens Play area, Southport

More than 100 years after Southport’s Kings Gardens were officially opened by King George V and Queen Mary, their granddaughter HRH Princess Alexandra  formally openend on the 16th. of April 2014 the refurbished seafront park.

The playground was part of the major refurbishment of the total park.

The Children's Playground Co. Ltd was asked to interpretate the design from the local children into play equipment conforming to BS EN1176 / 77 standards and manufactured, supplied and installed the complete project in close cooperation with Sefton Council Design department.

Sefton Council leader, Peter Dowd, said at the time: “I think it has been a fantastic day, the whole thing has been perfectly played, from the weather to the process of Her Royal Highness being here, even right through to turning on the fountain – and the gardens are looking brilliant.”

Large crowds, dignitaries and school children gathered to welcome Her Royal Highness, who made her way around the green space, taking in some of the new features created in the £5.5m redevelopment.

The princess then unveiled the new water fountain and a plaque marking the occasion, to a countdown and cheers from the crowds who were watching in the sunshine.

It remains one of the most popular playgrounds built by Sefton Council
